PSAidS2024

This motion graphics piece was created for the 2024 PSAid competition, which challenges students to promote responsible international disaster relief. Inspired by classic Atari video games, it utilizes retro pixel visuals to deliver an engaging public service message.

Defining a unique concept

The major constraint of this project was that professors required each student to come up with a unique idea, not yet done in either previous years or by fellow classmates.

I explored a few concepts from flipping coins, Rubix Cubes, to growing trees; but decided on the idea of “gamifying” donation to make the PSA feel like more of an interactive experience.

Ensuring brand consiste

I was inspired by retro Atari games and modern day role-playing games such as Undertale. Video games are extremely memorable since they each envision a unique style. I kept the style of my video very retro, since games such as Pac-Man or Space Invaders are widely known even to non-gamers and across a large age range.
